Norton, Zimbabwe

A massive need for a books in this "no go zone" in Zimbabwe.

In February 2020, I traveled to Zimbabwe to meet Simuka Africa Youth Association, and to learn about their community's need for a free-lending library. Simuka Africa Youth Association is an organization working on sustainably uplifting people out of poverty across Zimbabwe, with a focus on the township of Norton. In recent history, Zimbabwe has struggled with political unrest and unethical leadership, which has affected marginalized groups the most.

Sadly, shortly after my trip, COVID hit our world, which made the project of building a library extremely challenging. However, slowly Libraries for All alongside our amazing partner, Simuka Africa Youth Association, pushed forward with the project.

Finally, as of March 2023, the library has come together and is open to the community!
